National Invitation Tournament
The National Invitation Tournament is a tournament held by the NCAA twice a year. The first NIT tournament is played in November and is known as the NIT Season Tip-Off. The second is a post-season tournament played in March, with its final rounds played in Madison Square Garden.
The NIT has been labelled as a stigma somewhat is the world of basketball because the teams who play in the post-season tournaments are the teams who failed to make it to the NCAA tournament which is far more prestigious and a greater accomplishment. Although there is nothing wrong with NIT basketball, NIT basketball brackets and the NIT basketball tournament many fans have created this stigma for college basketball players everywhere.
The 2007 NIT and NIT bracket were incredibly competitive this year. The final two in the NIT 2007 were West Virginia and Clemson. Although it was an incredibly close game with a score of 78-73, West Virginia was the victor of the 2007 NIT bracket. The 2007 NIT tournament was a great success and the teams involved performed excellently.

Although NIT was once a tournament for men only, women's NIT has come into existence and is drawing as great a crowd as the men's tournaments. The 2007 women's NIT was won this year by Wyoming who defeated Wisconsin in the championship game on March 31. Although it is not yet as popular as the men's division, it will not be long as any NIT tournament draws a crowd of massive sizes.
Although the National Invitation Tournament has been labelled as a tournament for those teams who did not make it to the NCAA it is still a fiercely competitive tournament and features some of the best college athletes throughout the USA and all over North America. The NIT gives athletes a chance to prove their immense talents and skills whether they reach the famous NCAA tournament or not. This does not make these teams less talented or skilled; it just makes them not ready for the NCAA challenge. All it takes is one loss to fall out of the race and into the NIT tournament of the year.
