Basketball drills are essential in the making of a good basketball player. They're never going to be bored doing them, as there are at least 837 drills available in 14 categories. For instance you can find some really fun basketball drills for kids, and fun is definitely the key word here.

Try a couple of these – Monkey in the Middle Gets the Ball (teaches motion offense) or the Clap Pass (random ball pass to players who have to clap before they catch it). Other fun basketball drills are Speed Drill - Players at 1/2 court or baseline. Each has a ball. Objective: reduce the number of dribbles. This is very good for young players. There is also Red Light, Green Light, which you may have played in a different manner when you were a kid. This version goes like this: Everyone has a ball and starts at the baseline. When the coach says 'green light', players dribble and walk. When he says 'red light', players stop. As you can see, a basketball drill can actually be fun and easy.

If you're interested in basketball shooting drills then try the In, Out and Shoot which teaches quickness. Easy rules - Do an in and out crossover, then back in. Two or three quick steps to the side you crossed back to, then pull up and shoot. This one is sort of a combo drill in that it will also address basketball drills dribbling skills.

Before you play you need to warm-up, so you will need basketball practice drills. Here's an easy one. This one is ironically called Warm Up. Kids line up on the sides above the free throw line in an even number. Good shooters face good, bad face bad. They pass, but have to jump up on the pass like a player passed. The next player jumps up and shoots to a different person. Done with one or more hands. If a player misses, they run a lap. If a player throws it wrong and the other player doesn't touch it, they run the laps.

Wicked basketball dribbling drills can also be found on the Internet and require a higher level of skill than for kids or youth. One of the drills is the Zig Zag Dribble, where everyone starts on a baseline corner. Hit all four court corners, zig zagging on the way down. Do it 4 times. First time at each corner, do a spin, switching hands to the next corner. Second time dribble once between the legs at corners, switching ball hands between legs. Third time dribble ball behind back at corners, while ball behind back, and switch hands. And the fourth time, mix up all three moves, one at each of the corners. Mess up and the whole team does laps. This also fits into the category of basketball ball handling drills.

Basketball defensive drills can be relatively easy to flat out pains in the butt. There are at least 92 different drills you can choose from. Just one of them is called Roller Slides. With this drill, every player has a ball. Start at one side of the lane and slide to the next tapping the basketball from one hand to the next. The ball never comes off the floor because they are rolling it from hand to hand while bent at the knees. Teaches them to stay down.

Mix the defensive drills up with basketball rebounding drills for a really good work out. There are at least 61 drills in this category, and you can pick and choose which works best for your team.
