Indiana Pacers
The Indiana Pacers basketball team plays in the Central Division of the Eastern Conference in the National Basketball Association (NBA). The Indiana Pacers joined the NBA in the 1976-77 basketball season after the American Basketball Association (ABA) dismantled. The Pacers were one of four ABA teams to cross over. Investors chose the name after Indiana's rich history with harness racing horse pacers and the pace car that ran in the Indianapolis 500. The Conseco Fieldhouse in Indianapolis, Indiana doubles as the Indianan Pacers arena.
The current Indiana Pacers logo is of a yellow basketball inside a silver outlined blue "P" with the "Pacers" name next to it in blue. The logo is exactly like the previous logo used from 1990 to 2005, except for the added silver outline. The first Pacers logo had a hand holding a basketball inside the letter "P".
The Indiana Pacers basketball jerseys display colors of blue, gold and white. Olympic sprinter, Florence Griffith-Joyner designed the 1990 Indiana Pacers jerseys of black, gold and white.
The present Indiana Pacers roster includes players Darrell Armstrong of Fayetteville State, Jermaine O'Neal of Eau Claire HS, Troy Murphy of Notre Dame, and Jeff Foster of Texas State. Rookie Shawne Williams joined from Memphis. Though the head coach position remains vacant, the assistant coaches include Johnny Davis from Dayton, Dan Burke from Portland State, Chad Forcier from Seattle Pacific, Leonard Perry from Idaho, and Chuck Person from Auburn.
In 1990 the Indiana Pacers returned to the playoffs with better scoring than previous years. In the 1992-93 season, an Indiana Pacers trade brought in Pooh Richardson and Sam Mitchell. Though the Indiana Pacers basketball team made it to the playoffs, they lost to the New York Knicks in the first round.
Indiana Pacers vs. Miami heat during the 2006-07 playoffs. The Miami Heat and Indiana Pacers played a good and close game with the Pacers coming out with the win, 73-70. The Pacers advanced to the Eastern Conference finals for the first time in four years, ending the Miami Heat's eighteen home game winning streak.
