Denver Nuggets

The Denver Nuggets basketball team plays in the Northwest Division of the Western Conference in the National Basketball Association (NBA). The team joined the American Basketball Association (ABA) in 1967 as the Denver Rockets. After seven seasons, officials renamed the franchise to Denver Nuggets after the nineteenth century gold and silver mining boom in Colorado.

The Denver Nuggets basketball team plays their home games at the Pepsi Center in Denver, Colorado. E. Stanley Kroenke owns the Nuggets franchise.

The present Denver Nuggets logo displays a blue snow peaked mountain range behind the team name. Large yellow letters form the word "Nuggets" with a smaller version "Denver" above in a light blue and yellow banner. A light blue outline surrounds the entire logo. A former logo depicted Maxie Miner, a drawing of a miner in red, white and blue leaping with a pick and basketball over "Denver" in red and "Nuggets" in blue type.

Current Denver Nuggets jersey colors consist of blue, powder blue and gold.

In 2006, a trade joined Allen Iverson with the Denver Nuggets. After his interest in the team, it came a little surprise to find Allen Iverson on the Denver Nuggets. Some fans and experts criticized the Denver Nuggets and Allen Iverson for the trade that included Andre Miller and Joe Smith. Though rumors abounded that he demanded the trade from the Philadelphia 76ers, Allen Iverson of the Denver Nuggets denied it, stating he is thrilled to be on the team regardless of the rumors.

Along with Iverson, the Denver Nuggets 2006-07 roster includes players Carmelo Anthony from Syracuse, Marcus Camby of Massachusetts, Yakhouba Diawara of Pepperdine, and Kenyon Martin of Cincinnati. George Karl acts as head coach.

The Denver Nuggets won one conference title in 1976 as part of the ABA. They also won three ABA division titles and five NBA division titles.

The Denver Nuggets cheerleaders are a co-ed mix of professional dancers and acrobatics. Both men and women perform at the Nuggets home games, playoffs and special occasions. Thirty dance team members perform in between the 2007 Denver Nuggets games.
