Golden State Warriors

The Golden State Warriors are a group of professional players with a team in the Pacific Division of the Western Conference in the National Basketball Association (NBA). The Golden State Warriors first played as the Philadelphia Warriors, one of eleven charter teams in the Basketball Association of America (BAA). They kept the name until 1962 when they changed it to the Francisco Warriors. In 1971 they became known as the Golden State Warriors. The Golden State Warriors headquarters is based in Oakland, California.

Other teams that share the division with the Golden State Warriors basketball team include the Los Angeles Clippers and the Phoenix Suns.

Wilt Chamberlain joined the team during the 1959-60 season. He won the most valuable player (MVP) honors and NBA rookie of the year. He scored one hundred points against the New York Knicks in 1962.

Current Golden State Warriors basketball players include Baron Davis, Stephen Jackson, Jason Richardson, and Matt Barnes. The Golden State Warriors basketball jerseys have the colors blue, white and gold. Their current logo is of a two toned blue warrior holding the teams name with an orange lightning bolt set against an orange basketball.

In 1995, the Golden State Warriors owner, Christopher J. Cohan, became the team's sole owner. He later sold twenty percent of the Golden State Warriors basketball team to investors.

In 2005 the Golden State Warriors brought in coach Mike Montgomery. At present time he still coaches the Warriors.
