Los Angeles Clippers
The Los Angeles Clippers joined the National Basketball Association (NBA) in 1970 as one of three expansion teams under the name, the Buffalo Braves. The Los Angeles Clippers history includes a second name change to the San Diego Clippers before they moved to Los Angeles. The Los Angeles Clippers basketball team is one of five in the Pacific Division of the Western Conference. In 1999, the Clippers moved their home base from San Diego to the Staples Center in Los Angeles, California.
The Los Angeles Clippers basketball team brought in record making attendance marks since their team moved to the Staples Center. This helped to extend their lease for an additional ten years.
In the beginning years, the legendary Dr. Jack Ramsay successfully coached the team to the playoffs. Bob McAdoo brought in high scores.
Donald Sterling, a real estate agent and Beverly Hills attorney, purchased the team in 1981. He currently owns the team. In 2003, Michael Joseph Dunleavy, Sr. became the team's head coach.
In the 2004-05 basketball season, the Los Angeles Clippers made the playoffs for the first time in nearly a decade. New team players Cuttino Mobley and Sam Cassell made important contributions alongside Elton Brand that made 47 to 35 their best record since they left Buffalo. The Los Angeles Clippers basketball team finished in second place in the Pacific Division. This same year player Bobbie Simmons received the Most Improved Player Award.
The current Los Angeles Clippers logo shows the Clipper name in blue cutting through a red basketball. The Los Angeles Clippers basketball logo design was an attempt to capitalize on the popular Los Angeles Lakers logo. The teams former logo closely resembled the last, but with San Diego in place of Los Angeles cutting through an orange basketball.
The colors on the Los Angeles Clippers basketball jerseys are red, white and blue. Online shops sell Los Angeles Clippers jerseys with the names of players like Chris Kaman and Elton Brand along with their numbers. Lucky fans collected pieces of Los Angeles Clippers Sam Cassell jerseys included within some basketball game collectors cards.
The Los Angeles Clippers cheerleaders, the Spirit Dance Team, start with an open tryout of over three hundred professional dancers. Sixteen are chosen after a couple weeks of auditions and interviews.
The 2006-07 Los Angeles Clippers roster gives a list of present players. This includes Will Conroy from Washington, Quinton Ross from Southern Methodist, Daniel Ewing from Duke, and Paul Davis.
