Sacramento Kings
The Sacramento Kings basketball team plays in the Pacific Division of the Western Conference in the National Basketball Association (NBA). Known first as the Rochester Royals, the Sacramento Kings are one of the original seventeen teams to join the NBA at its birth. Prior to that, they won the National Basketball League (NBL) Championship during its second year in the league. After that, they moved over to the NBLs rival league, the Basketball Association of America (BAA) before the two leagues merged into the NBA.
The Sacramento Kings are also known as the Cincinnati Royals, the Kansas City-Omaha Kings, and the Kansas City Kings. In 1985 the franchise moved to Sacramento where they took on their latest name. They now play in the ARCO arena located in a once isolated area outside the expanding northern outskirts of Sacramento, California. The construction cost of forty million make it the cheapest and smallest site in the NBA.
Jack Twyman, Jerry Lucas, Oscar Robertson, and Happy Hairston all played for the Sacramento Kings. Players on the 2006-07 NBA Sacramento Kings roster include Shareef Abdur-Rahim, Mike Bibby, Ronnie Price and Kevin Martin. The Sacramento Kings head coach position once belonged to Rick Adelman. In 2006, Eric Musselman took over. After just one season he was fired, leaving the team without a head coach.
