Atlanta Hawks

The Atlanta Hawks basketball team began in 1946. It is part of the Southeast Division in the National Basketball Association (NBA) Eastern Conference. The Atlanta Hawks played in the Central Division before 2004 when the NBA added a sixth division. The Miami Heat, Orlando Magic, Washington Wizards and Charlotte Bobcats share places within the Southeast Division. The Atlanta Hawks basketball team gained their name in 1968. Formerly they went by The Tri-Cities Blackhawks, The Milwaukee Hawks, and the Saint Louis Hawks. They currently play their home games at the Philips Arena in Atlanta, Georgia.

Atlanta Spirit, LLC presently owns the Atlanta Hawks team with Bruce Levenson a managing partner. Mike Woodson from Indiana is the head coach alongside assistant coaches Larry Drew, Herb Brown, and Bob Bender. Esteban Batista from Uruguay, Josh Childress of Stanford, Solomon Jones of South Florida and Marvin Williams from North Carolina all play for the Atlanta Hawks in the 2006-07 season. Solomon Jones and Marvin Williams are the newest additions to the Atlanta Hawks basketball team.

The Atlanta Hawks logo currently shows a large red and black with wings spread wide. The hawk clutches a basketball in its talons. This hawk symbol was created in 1995. A former logo showed a hawk's head within a red circle.

In 1988 the Atlanta Hawks became the first NBA team to play in the Soviet Union. They defeated the Soviet Georgia All-Stars by one point.

Colors of red, white and gold adorn the Atlanta Hawks basketball jerseys. Present day Atlanta Hawks jerseys add a hawk silhouette in the "A" of the Hawks name. Talon-like serifs adorn the letters.

The Atlanta Hawks won their first National Basketball Association Championship in 1958 after six games against the Boston Celtics. They also won fourteen division titles and four conference titles.
