San Antonio Spurs
The San Antonio Spurs team participates in the Southwest Division of the Western Conference in the National Basketball Association (NBA). The franchise began in 1967 as the Dallas Chaparrals. They competed in the American Basketball Association (ABA) as one of the initial eleven basketball teams. In 1970, they changed their name to the Texas Chaparrals. In 1973, the team moved to San Antonio where the team adapted a new name, the San Antonio Spurs.
By 2007, the San Antonio Spurs won the NBA Championships three times, the Division Championships fifteen times and the Conference Finals eight times.
The present San Antonio Spurs logo colors resemble the original logo created in 1976. Both logos display San Antonio Spurs name in silver, white and black with a silver spur drawn in place of the letter "U". The Spurs cheerleaders are called the San Antonio Spurs Silver Dancers. The Silver Dancers perform professional dance routines for fans and players at home games. They also invite girls ages five through eighteen to participate in the Junior Silver Dance Clinic to become a Junior Silver Dancer.
Players on the 2007 San Antonio Spurs roster include Bruce Bowen of Cal State, Robert Horry of Alabama, Brent Barry of Oregon State and Melvin Ely of Fresno State. Tony Parker of the San Antonio Spurs is currently engaged to Desperate Housewives star, Eva Longoria. Parkers' San Antonio Spurs salary for the 2007 season was $9,450,000.
